PLEASE SUPPORT THE CABP ACTION FUND

Why should you SUPPORT the Action Fund?

The Action Fund is being used for the ongoing battle to unfreeze our U.K. Pensions, by ongoing lobbying of key members of both the British and Canadian Governments and strategic alliances with British Pensioner organizations, who support us with office space and executive support services in the UK. This requires an ongoing representation in the UK, ably managed by John Markham.

History of Action Fund.

  • Initiated in 1990's, with intent to fund advertising campaign in UK Press. Amounts raised inadequate for meaningful impact.
  • Money held in special account to pay for Legal Action against UK Government.
  • South African Association of British Pensioners starts legal Action, with Annette Carson as Plaintiff. CABP offers financial support to the much smaller South African group.
  • Case heard in UK High Court, 2002. Mr. Justice Stanley Burton ruled for UK Government, on grounds that it was "A POLITICAL, RATHER THAN A LEGAL MATTER".
  • UK Court of Appeal agreed that there was discrimination, but ruled that UK Government was entitled to discriminate.
  • Final recourse in the UK system was a petition to The House of Lords. The Lords responded to the petition November 2003, heard the Appeal 28th February - March 1 2005.
  • Lords confirmed lower Courts findings May 26, 2005.
  • CABP leads Consortium with Australian and South African Pensioner organizations, to launch an action with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
  • Anti-discrimination suit filed November 24, 2005, against UK Government with ECHR.
